What we do…

 by Care Hart

Disabled artists across the United States that qualify financially (Hartists), are center to dAFi. Disabled Artists Foundation, Inc (dAFi) supports their well-being by providing Hartists free art supplies and training every month, while following our Seven Core Values.

These Seven Core Values provide a roadmap and guide for our actions. The HARTISTs are CENTRIC to our program and the focus of our mission. INTEGRITY is woven into every aspect of our actions. The well-being of Hartists are ENERGIZEd through our programs and connections. CREATIVITY is integral in our environment by providing all who are connected to our programs new and exciting challenges that keep us all growing together. COMPASSION to and among Hartists and Angels is key to working within this diverse community. dAFi reaches beyond our members, Angels, and Hartists with a goal to ensure we embrace this diversity as a strength. We support these strengths with INCLUSIVEness at every level of our foundation providing a safe place for differences and to promote health and wellness well beyond the grasp of our foundation. Our Hartists and Angels feel safe within our program because we are DISCREET and protect their privacy rights; we expect all who are connected to this foundation to uphold this key value.

How it all began …

 by Care Hart

I live with a migraine that never turns off.  December 2017 was excruciating and I couldn't lay down, sleep, or focus on things that distract the average person, but I could craft.  The only thing that brought me through the other side was creating art.  I thought to myself, there has to be a science behind art and the improvement of a person's mental state.  So I did some research and found the clinical research that moved me to act.  https://www.disabledartists.org/studies

With experience in poverty at times in my own life, I felt compelled to bring creative arts to the impoverished disabled.

The blessing of a person finding their joy, their purpose, their energy, their experiences and sometimes even their pain relief during the process of crafting is better than medicine as many of us already know.  Adding art in your  life shouldn't just be limited to those wealthy enough to buy glue and more.

My background is finance, so I executed all the processes needed for federal and state requirements to become a nonprofit and do this right.  Hopefully, in such a way that this foundation lives long beyond me.
