dAFi Mission — Energize Disabled Through Art
What is a Hartist? Who do we help?
These amazing folks are adults who are Disabled in the United States and at/near poverty. We provide them with a package or art supplies (for free) once a quarter. This package is meant to inspire them to create and can be all different types of art. You can check out what they pick here (www.disabledartists.org/pick), but please don’t fill out a form… that’s just for them once approved.

Connect with our community on Discord - https://discord.gg/q9WkTXNYYn … This is where donors and program recipients all join together to share and inspire each other. (Never as active as it could be, so we are always excited for new folks to join)

Many clinical research study results conclude creative arts aid in improving the well being of the disabled - help us help them
Energize Disabled Through art
Art, in many ways, transcends physical and mental boundaries, offering a space where creativity and human experience can flourish regardless of one's abilities. We recognize there are many nonprofits who are searching for a cure of various challenges, but many may never see those cures or that relief. The here and now can be so powerful in helping improve the well being of people facing challenges. Help us help them… in the here and now.
Here is a quote in an email to us that touched my soul this year (2025)
Are you in our programs (or want to be)
Open Enrollment in Jan and June
We currently have a waitlist in 2026, but apply anyway if you qualify - Disabled on Social Security Disability AND at/below poverty
The conduct of those in our programs and as volunteers matter to us very much. We have zero paid employees and many in our programs.
Thank you for helping us help others
Here is list of ways art helps. Even if you aren’t disabled, it helps you, too. We just chose to help the disabled, because we felt they could use it most. Specifically adults in the USA who are both disabled and financially challenged.
a few reasons ART HELPS:
**Self-Expression and Identity: Art allows people with disabilities to express their identities, emotions, and experiences in a way that words often cannot. It can be a way to share their perspective on the world, challenge stereotypes, and assert their individuality.
**Therapeutic and Healing: The creative process can be deeply therapeutic, helping individuals cope with pain, trauma, or the challenges associated with their disabilities. Art therapy is widely used to help people manage mental health issues, physical pain, and emotional distress.
**Communication: For some, art can be a way to communicate when traditional methods are limited. It offers an alternative means of expression that can transcend physical or cognitive barriers.
**Advocacy and Awareness: Art can be a powerful tool for raising awareness about disability issues. Artists with disabilities often use their work to challenge societal norms, advocate for accessibility, and promote inclusion.
**Empowerment: Creating art can be empowering, giving individuals a sense of agency and control over their narrative. It can foster confidence and resilience, helping them navigate a world that may not always be accommodating.
**Connection and Community: Art can foster a sense of community and belonging. Participating in artistic communities, whether physical or online, allows individuals with disabilities to connect with others who share similar experiences or passions.
People create art when disabled for many of the same reasons anyone creates art… self-expression, communication, and the desire to connect with others. However, for individuals with disabilities, art can also serve as a powerful tool for empowerment, healing, and advocacy.
